  • ROCKWELL, RALPH BEAUMONT, Pvt. Army, American Expeditionary Force (AEF), Saint Mehiel and Meuse/Argonne Offensive 1918. Born: Feb. 21,1895-Died: 1980. Buried at Hailey, Idaho. Draft Registration: Blaine County, Idaho.
  • WERRY, ELLWOOD ROBERTS, Pvt. US Army He did not see overseas duty...he was drafted while attending the U of I, Mining Engineering School. He was assigned to the Army Specialized Training Command. The war ended a few days before he was to ship out for artillery training. Born July 13, 1899 (some records show July 12, 1898) Died Aug 15 2003. My Father Ellwood R. Werry was probably the oldest WW I veteran in the state of Idaho when he died. He may have been the last WW I vet. To the best of our knowledge he was the oldest living alumni of the University of Idaho.Age 104 yrs, 1 month and 2 days. Submitted by family.
  • WERRY, SAMUEL THOMAS, Private First Class Samuel T. Werry Born Jan 12, 1890 Killed in Action on November 3, l918, in Belgium with Co. B, 347th Machine Gun Bn, 91st Division, US Army. Age 28 yrs, 9 months and 21 days. Sam was killed shortly, within hours, of the notice of cease fire. He was guarding a bridge when he was apparently killed by sniper. As a boy I was told that Sam and his no. 2 machine gunner had heard a rumor that a cease fire was to be set. The number 2 gunner went back to company lines to find out if was true and it was. He went back to their position and found Sam dead. Sam was the last man who lost his life from Blaine County Idaho in WW I.
